Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about language access plans

What is a language access plan?
A language access plan is a written plan for how your organization provides translation and interpretation to people with limited English proficiency. It records the languages your community speaks, the documents you translate, when you provide interpreters, how staff request services, how you train them, and how you measure results.
Which template should I use?
Choose the template for your field: one for schools and districts, one for healthcare organizations, and one for state and local government agencies, including courts. Each covers the same core planning steps and adds the requirements, settings, and documents specific to that field.
Will a language access plan help with compliance?
It can help you plan for the requirements that apply to you and document how you meet them. Each template includes a compliance section listing laws that apply in its field, such as Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for organizations that receive federal financial assistance. Federal guidance on language access has changed since 2025, so check current requirements and review your plan with your legal counsel. The templates are planning tools, not legal advice.
Can you provide the language services our plan calls for?
Yes. We translate the documents your plan identifies and provide interpretation by phone or video.
