In a deposition, one mistranslated word changes the answer on the record. In a contract, it changes what a party is obligated to do. Legal translation is the one place where close enough has serious  consequences.

Stay informed when you cannot check the wording

Legal teams review wording carefully because clients, colleagues, courts, and agencies rely on accurate translation. When a translation is in a language no one on your team reads, you can’t check the wording yourself. By using our service, you can confirm who handles the translation, what experience they bring, and the review level selected for the project.

Argo Translation matches each request to a language professional and confirms the review level and required records during scoping. At project completion, the project report names each contributor and lists their education and experience.

Language access plan

Turn language-access requirements into a written plan

A language access plan gives agencies and courts a consistent process for identifying when a person needs language assistance, arranging interpretation or translated documents, and recording what was provided. Use the fillable template to organize that process into written procedures.

Two paths

Legal work with and without a translation partner

Without a partner

Translation starts before the filing instructions are confirmed.

A bilingual staff member translates between other responsibilities.

The translated file arrives without showing who handled the work.

Staff search for language help before a client meeting or deposition.

The translation schedule is set without the filing or meeting date.

With a partner

Filing instructions are confirmed before translation begins.

The request is assigned to a qualified language professional.

The project report names each contributor and lists their experience.

Phone or video interpretation is arranged for the conversation.

The delivery date is confirmed against your filing or meeting schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about legal translation

What is the difference between legal translation and certified translation?
Legal translation describes the subject matter. Certified translation means the translated document comes with a translator’s certification. For USCIS, the translator certifies that the English translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate it. Immigration courts require a signed certification stating that the translator is competent and that the translation is true and accurate. Other courts and agencies may have different rules.
How do you choose a translator for legal documents?
Argo Translation reviews your files, languages, deadline, review level, and filing instructions before assigning the work to a qualified language professional. When the project is complete, the project report names each contributor and lists their education and experience.
What affects the cost and turnaround?
Translation cost and turnaround depend on the amount of content, languages, subject matter, file format, review level, and deadline. Interpretation charges depend on the minutes used and whether you connect by phone or video. Share the project details for an exact quote and confirmed delivery date.
Are your interpreters certified for court?
It depends on the court and language. The federal court interpreter certification exam is offered only for Spanish. For other languages, federal courts may use interpreters classified as professionally qualified or language skilled. If you need an interpreter for a deposition, client meeting, or other out-of-court conversation, tell us the language and setting. We’ll confirm the available credential and phone or video option.
What do you need to quote a legal project?
For translation, send the files, languages, deadline, where the translation will be used, and any filing or review requirements. For interpretation, share the languages, date and time, setting, and whether you need phone or video access. Include any confidentiality, access, or retention requirements that may affect the work.
How is confidential material protected?
Argo Translation’s terms require it to protect source files and information you identify in writing as confidential. Access to client content is limited by role and need. Data is encrypted while it moves and while it is stored. Tell us before work begins if your matter has special rules for access, file retention, or where data may be stored.
