Multi-market research runs on translation: questionnaires, screeners, edits between waves, and languages added mid-study. A badly translated questionnaire can keep a sound study from producing comparable data.

Data integrity in every market

Market research is how your clients decide what to make, where to launch, and how to compete. That research only works when every respondent understands each question the same way. A loosely translated survey does more than read badly; it skews the data your clients act on.

Argo Translation shapes its service around each study. You choose the level for each piece: human translation for the instrument, or AI with a linguist's review to keep high-volume open-ends on budget and on schedule. A linguist then reviews the live survey before fielding, so data integrity holds up from market to market.

How it works

Three steps from sending your files to fielding in every language

Step 1

Send your files

Share your questionnaire, guide, or open-ends in the format you already use, along with your languages and dates.

Step 2

Linguists translate and review

Market research linguists translate into each of your languages, and a second linguist reviews the work.

Step 3

You field on schedule

Everything comes back formatted and ready to use, so fieldwork opens on the dates you planned.

Market research case study

How a global research firm kept two surveys identical in four languages

A market research firm runs its survey translation through Argo Translation. When the firm needed two consumer surveys in Mandarin, French, Japanese, and Polish within five business days, our translation memory database kept the 2,300 repeated words identical across both surveys. Linguists reviewed each live survey before fielding. Both surveys arrived on time, and every respondent read the same questions in every language.

Two paths

Market research with and without a translation partner

Without a partner

A question reads differently in one language, and the finding isn't real.

A bilingual colleague translates the survey between their own deadlines.

Each wave is retranslated, and the wording drifts a little every time.

Nobody opens the live survey until a respondent hits a broken screen.

Field dates move because one language came back after the others.

With a partner

Questions measure the same thing, so the differences you find are real.

A research linguist translates the survey, and the deadline is part of the job.

Translation memory keeps the wording the same from wave to wave.

A linguist checks the live survey before any respondent does.

Your field dates set the schedule, and every language lands on them.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about market research translation

What does it take to translate a survey instrument properly?
Proper survey translation takes three things: a linguist who understands how research works, a second qualified linguist to review the translation, and a record of the work. Argo Translation is certified to ISO 17100:2015, the international standard for translation services, and every delivery includes a signed record with the linguists' credentials on file.
What service levels are available?
There are three service levels: human translation, AI translation, and AI translation with a linguist's review. Human translation means a professional linguist translates and a second linguist reviews the work, which fits the questionnaire itself, where exact wording decides what your data is worth. AI translation is the fastest and lowest-cost option for high-volume material. AI translation with a linguist's review sits in between: the machine produces the first draft, and a linguist corrects it. You can mix levels within one study, piece by piece.
What does market research translation cost?
Translation is quoted per word, by language. Four things set the price: which languages you need, the subject matter, the turnaround, and the service level you choose, with AI translation costing the least and human translation the most. Repeated wording also costs less, because translation memory, a record of everything already translated for you, means a question you fielded last wave is not billed as new work. Send your files and field dates, and the quote comes back with a recommended service level for each piece.
Can you translate open-ended responses after we've fielded?
Yes, translating open-ended responses after fielding is a common request. Verbatims come back in the format your coding process needs, translated so the meaning a coder has to categorize survives, not just the words. For large open-end sets, AI translation reviewed by a linguist keeps the study inside budget without leaving the analysis guessing.
Can you work inside our survey platform?
Yes, we work with survey platforms in one of two ways. You can send the instrument as an export, and it comes back ready to load. Or you can give a linguist access to the live survey, and they review each language before fielding: the questions, the response options, the special characters, and the routing, exactly as a respondent will see them. Tell us the platform when you send the study, and we'll recommend the faster route.
