Without a clear plan for translation and interpretation, your staff must solve each language need as it arises, and patients may receive inconsistent information from intake through follow-up.

Your staff need a clear process for language requests

Your organization communicates with patients, members, caregivers, and staff in many ways. Forms, websites, care instructions, and staff training require advance preparation, while appointments and other live conversations require immediate support. Your staff should not have to manage each language request alone.

Argo Translation helps your team create a practical plan for managing language requests. Your organization can start with one department or content type and add services as language needs change.

How it works

Three steps to help a patient understand

Step 1

Describe the situation

Give us the languages and the situation. An appointment, a form, a training session.

Step 2

We match the service to the need

Argo Translation arranges phone or video interpretation, translation, training adaptation, or the right combination.

Step 3

Patients understand their care plan

Patients get information in the language they need, and your team gets a record of every encounter.

Language access plan

Turn language access requirements into a practical plan

A language access plan gives staff a consistent process for identifying when patients, members, or caregivers need language assistance, arranging interpretation or translated information, and documenting what was provided. Use the fillable template to organize that process into the written procedures Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act requires for covered healthcare organizations.

Two paths

Healthcare with and without a translation partner

Without a partner

Staff are unsure whether a request needs interpretation or translation.

Interpreter availability varies by department or shift.

Documents are translated only after an urgent need appears.

Staff coordinate separate contacts, requests, and records.

Family members or staff interpret without verified qualifications.

With a partner

Your team uses interpretation for conversations and translation for documents.

Staff connect by phone or video, on demand, across 230+ languages.

Your team identifies priority documents, settings, and languages in advance.

One language-services partner brings the work and records together.

A qualified interpreter supports privacy and independent decision-making.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about healthcare translation

What is the difference between medical interpretation and translation?
Medical interpretation supports spoken or signed conversations in real time, such as appointments, therapy sessions, and benefits calls. Translation converts written content into another language, such as consent forms, discharge instructions, patient education, websites, and staff training. Many healthcare organizations need both services.
Can bilingual staff or family members interpret for patients?
Not automatically. Speaking two languages does not make someone qualified to interpret. Qualified bilingual staff may communicate directly in an assigned language, while qualified interpreters must demonstrate accuracy, impartiality, knowledge of medical terminology, and confidentiality. Federal rules allow organizations to rely on family members only in limited circumstances. Minor children may interpret only temporarily during an emergency while a qualified interpreter is being found.
How can healthcare staff access a medical interpreter?
With Argo Translation, staff can connect with medical interpreters on demand by phone or video in 230+ languages. American Sign Language interpretation is available by video. The right setup depends on the languages your organization encounters and whether phone or video fits each setting.
Which healthcare documents should be translated?
Prioritize information patients or members need to understand or act on, including consent and intake forms, notices, discharge instructions, medication information, patient education, and benefits materials. The right list depends on your services, the languages your community uses, and the requirements that apply to your organization.
Are healthcare organizations required to provide language assistance?
Healthcare organizations covered by Section 1557 must take reasonable steps to provide meaningful access for people with limited English proficiency. When language assistance is required, it must be free to the individual, accurate, timely, and protective of privacy and independent decision-making. These organizations must also maintain written language access procedures.
How much do medical interpretation and healthcare translation services cost?
You pay per minute for interpretation. Phone and video rates differ, and a monthly minimum applies. There is no setup fee and no contract. Document translation quotes are based on word count, language, subject matter, and turnaround. Share your project details to receive an exact quote before work begins.
